Conference on Complex Systems and Condensed Matter Physics
The Department of Physical Sciences (DPS), IISER Kolkata, is pleased to announce the Conference on Complex Systems and Condensed Matter Physics, to be held on 2–3 March 2026 at IISER Kolkata.
To promote in-depth scientific discussions, the conference will feature short, discussion-oriented talks by invited speakers from different parts of the country. The primary objective of the conference is to bring leading experts in the field to our campus and to foster meaningful scientific interactions and collaborations among faculty members, researchers, and students.
Tentative Speakers:
Abhik Basu (SINP, Kolkata), Apratim Chatterji (IISER Pune), Arnab Das (IACS, Kolkata), Arti Garg (SINP, Kolkata), Dibyendu Das (IIT Bombay), Krishnendu Sengupta (IACS, Kolkata), Rejish Nath (IISER Pune), Sayan Choudhury (HRI, Allahabad), Subir Das (JNCASR, Bangalore), Sumilan Banerjee (IISc Bangalore)
We cordially invite interested faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, PhD/IPhD students, and final-year master’s students to register (No Registration Fee) for the conference on or before 21 February 2026.
Important: Faculty members are kindly requested to motivate their students (Postdoctoral, IPhD, PhD, and final-year Master’s students) to submit posters and actively participate in the conference. Three Best Poster Awards will be presented for outstanding poster presentations.

SPARC Worshop: Nanophotonics using Structured Light
An International Workshop on “Nanophotonics using Structured Light” is being organized by Bio-Optics and Nano Photonics (bioNap) Laboratory, DPS, IISER Kolkata in collaboration with State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. Supported by the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), this workshop aims to bring together leading experts to explore the rapidly growing fields of Nanophotonics using structured light. The workshop will cover fundamentals and emerging phenomena associated with spin-orbit interaction of light, interaction of structured light with chiral metasurfaces, plasmonic and hybrid metamaterials, 2-D layered materials, etc.[>

Correlated Quantum Matter Workshop
A two-day workshop on “Correlated Quantum Matter” is to be held in IISER Kolkata between 18-19 April 2024. The workshop would bring together leading practitioners of quantum condensed matter physics from the country and abroad to discuss the latest developments in the field.
Correlated quantum many-body systems have played an important role in our understanding of fundamental phenomena in nature from symmetry breaking to topological phases of matter. Emergent properties in these systems have led to diverse phenomena from superconductivity to spin liquids to the quantum hall effect. Correlated quantum matter is also intrinsically tied to the development of modern quantum technologies like quantum computing, quantum sensing, etc. In this context, this workshop will not only lead to a discussion on this timely topic, but it would also be a great opportunity for students and postdocs of IISER Kolkata to be exposed to the frontline research topics in this field.
Among other speakers, Prof. Mohit Randeria and Prof. Nandini Trivedi of Ohio State University, USA, will participate in the workshop and each of them will deliver a DPS colloquium (on 18 and 19 April 2024), which will also be a part of this workshop. We hope that our PhD students, postdocs, and colleagues, particularly those working in the broad area of condensed matter physics, will benefit from the informal academic discussions throughout this workshop.
