Our research aims to gain insight into the thermodynamic behavior and underlying mechanisms of polyelectrolyte interactions, specifically in the context of complex coacervation formation. We aim to develop a comprehensive theoretical framework for calculating the free energy of two oppositely charged polymer chains and analyzing their position-dependent local dielectricity while taking into account the unique properties of polyelectrolytes, such as their flexible, interpenetrating macromolecular structure. Our ultimate goal is to understand better the fundamental differences between the two-body interactions of soft macromolecules and rigid particles and to provide a new perspective on the nature of the thermodynamic drive and the role of electrostatic correlations in this process.
